Priory Carpets is a family run business trading for 36 years in 2025
Priory Carpets was founded in 1989 by Tony and Richard Smith (Uncle and Nephew). Richard had worked previously at Rossingtons Carpets from school and then went on to work in partnership with Tony in 1989. The business started out with 1 shop in a row of 4. Business grew and grew over the years and 36 years later, they now own the row of shops on Potter Street, Worksop.
Priory Carpets is very much a family run company, with Tony’s son’s Lee & Anthony working with them after leaving school. Tony’s youngest son “Little Tony” joined in 2016 and Richard’s son, Josh in 2017. Craig Taylor and Antony Pettinger have also worked here since 1999.
We sadly lost Alan Beardsley in the later part of 2022, who had worked for us over a number of years, part time measuring and sales. Alan contributed so much with his knowledge of the industry and will be deeply missed.
The accounts and admin had been run by Gill Clark for 25 years. Gill retired in 2022 and the role was taken over by Sarah Follows, who has been with us since June 2021.
We work on tight margins and with a family friendly ethic, which has made us so successful.
We offer a free local measuring service and free fitting.
We also extended into the Bed and Mattress market back in 2008 and this has proven just as successful. We now have the whole of the top floor as a display area with lots of stock.
